Sick and Tired

Friday night Lily barely slept, then woke for the day around 6 AM and was miserable all morning. We took her to the doctor around 11 (yay for Saturday hours!) where they confirmed she had an ear infection. So now she's on antibiotics for the first time ever and already doing much better.

Pigs!

Not a great picture, but there are new piglets at Aunt Anna's farm!
Lily loves pigs. :)

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Today we had lunch with Aunt Anna and then went to a new park to play. I decided to call it "the recycle park" because the whole place seemed to be made out of "reclaimed" things (shredded tires instead of mulch) and I thought recycled sounded nicer than "dump park" or "trash park". Lily checking things out, in her St. Patty's Day duds:
It is very hard for a toddler to walk on shredded tires, by the way. She wasn't really a fan.
But she did like the slide:
Anna thought we should try to pose Lily like she had climbed a tree. It didn't go over well:
And she just kept waving at the camera instead of holding on. :)

In some of those pictures you can see the bruise on her forehead. On Sunday afternoon she slipped and hit her head on the edge of a bench. It left an immediate bruise, but it's starting to fade. I actually took her to the doctor yesterday to have her ears checked. Her balance has been off (hence the falling) and we've had far too many (entirely) sleepless nights lately, so I thought it could have been an infection. She was clearly on the mend from the cold she got last week, and her ears are fine. The doctor said to let her cry it out. Been there, tried that. Nothing works with this girl. :(

Lily also got to make friends with a little boy named Kallan yesterday. He is only 9 months old but much bigger than Owen, and I think Lily prefers him. :) They were playing really nicely together and I almost got a picture of it but just as I took the picture Lisa came in the door and distracted them:
So this was the best I could do:
(Check out the bruise!)

Baby Love...

Earlier this week I watched Lily's friend Owen for a few hours. Owen's just a little guy, and Lily used to treat him like her toy. Now that he's a little bigger, Lily was much more wary of him:
Especially when he kept trying to kiss her.It was kind of cute, but my germaphobic mother instincts were having a bit of a panic attack. And for good reason, I guess, because Lily just came down with some bad sniffles last night. Not bad enough, though, to justify her WAKING UP SEVEN TIMES last night. I am exhausted. And so is she. Today cannot end soon enough. :(

It turns out that she loves being outside

Well, it's finally looking a bit like spring:

Sunday after lunch, we took Lily to see some ducks, which she quacked and waved at - the ducks pretty much just floated around:

On our way back home, Anna called to invite Lily to visit the animals. (No, that's not just me trying to construct a narrative - I think she was excited to finally have some warm weather, and had invited Maya and Megan over too.)

Lily loved the pigs, the goat, the overly-friendly barn kitten, the dogs, and the cows, but was unconvinced about Anna's horses:

Back home, she didn't want to go inside, so I put a hat on her and let her run around for a while. Saturday she was still afraid of the snow, but by Sunday she was blazing trails right over it!

Still a tiny little thing:

Eventually she decided that she wanted to go inside, climbed up on the side porch, and started pulling on the door (after running back and forth for a few minutes, of course.)

And finally, here's when she discovered the geese:

Daddy Is the Picture King

I tried to put Lily down for her nap around 12:15 (which lately has been pretty standard) but she basically screamed and refused to nap despite several attempts at changing her diaper (she likes to poop when she should be napping), rocking her, ignoring the screams, etc. Eventually I gave up and took her downstairs where we watched some Sesame Street. Then she spent almost an hour torturing Peanut Butter (the cat) by pulling her tail and sitting on her. Eventually around 3 she got a little whiny so I asked her if she was tired and wanted to go to bed. She walked over to the gate to try to open it, so I followed her up the stairs, into her room, put her in the crib, and she has been silent ever since. I guess she's a big girl now and thinks she can decide when it's ok to nap. Very late in the day. Alas...

So I am still here, despite not having posted much lately. My time with Lily is mostly spent reviewing body parts and quizzing her on animal noises, so I haven't taken many pictures. :)

As promised:

Mostly it's a bunch of regular poking-at-the-snow action until about halfway through; then she starts to tear around like her normal self. Yes, that's a snow-clearing sledgehammer toward the end.
